Bizarre But True
Complex WordPress ecommerce build with custom post types, WooCommerce, and magazine-style content for a former Hastings museum going fully online.
The situation
Alex found me through the Bricks Builder experts directory after 2+ years of bad experiences with other developers and 4 failed website projects. Bizarre But True was originally a physical museum in Hastings dedicated to the strange, unusual, and unexplained. The business was transitioning to a fully online model and needed a website that could handle a lot more than a standard business site.
This was his last try.
The challenge
This was not a typical small business website. The brief called for:
- WooCommerce ecommerce for branded merchandise
- Custom post types for magazine articles and video content
- A custom slider with lightbox functionality showcasing bizarre museum items
- Upsell and affiliate integrations using FunnelKit and Lasso
- Custom CSS components throughout
- A design that matched the bold, unusual personality of the brand
Previous developers had either underestimated the complexity or lost interest partway through. Alex needed someone who would actually see it through.
What I built
I built the entire site in Bricks Builder with full WooCommerce integration. The site handles merch sales, hosts a growing library of articles and video content through custom post types, and features a custom interactive slider showcasing items from the museum collection with detailed lightbox views.
Every section was designed to reflect the brand. Nothing about this site is generic. The plugins, the layout, the custom components, all built around what the business actually needed, not what was easiest to deliver.
What the client said
Alex went from being ready to give up on getting a website built to describing the result as “far in excess of what I originally envisioned.” He has since commissioned a second linked project, with plans for an experiences website when the business expands back into physical attractions.
Where they are now
Bizarre But True has a fully functional online platform with ecommerce, content publishing, and the foundation to grow into real-world experiences when the time comes. From 4 failed attempts to a site that exceeded expectations.
"After 2+ years of bad experiences with developers and 4 failed website projects, this was my last try. What I've now got is far in excess of what I originally envisioned. Can't recommend enough."
