Free Local SEO Audit
Find out why your competitors are showing up on Google and you're not
A personal review of your local search presence. Google rankings, Business Profile, citations, and competitor landscape. Plain English, no jargon.
This audit is for UK local business owners (trades, services, hospitality, retail, professional services) who can see their competitors ranking on Google Maps and Google search but cannot work out why their own business is invisible. If you have a Google Business Profile but it never seems to bring you anything, this is for you.
The local search landscape
If you're not visible locally, you're invisible
Local search is where your next customer starts. Here's what the data says.
46%
of all Google searches have local intent
Search Engine Roundtable
76%
of people who search for something nearby visit a business within a day
Google / Ipsos research
28%
of local searches result in a purchase
Google consumer insights
What you'll get
I personally review five areas of your local search presence
No automated scan. I look at your business the way Google does, then tell you what's working, what's not, and what to fix first.
Google Maps Visibility
I check whether your business shows up in the local map pack for the searches that matter most. If your competitors are there and you're not, I'll tell you why.
Google Business Profile
Categories, description, photos, posts, reviews. I review your profile against what Google actually rewards and flag everything that needs fixing.
Local Keyword Rankings
Where do you rank for the terms your customers are actually typing? I check your positions for your most important local keywords.
Citation Consistency
Your business name, address, and phone number need to match across every directory. Inconsistencies confuse Google and hurt your rankings.
Competitor Comparison
I look at who's outranking you locally and identify what they're doing that you're not. Knowing the gap is the first step to closing it.
Delivered within 48 hours
You'll get a clear, jargon-free report sent straight to your inbox. No upsell, no obligation.

Problems I find on almost every local SEO audit
If any of these ring a bell, there's a good chance you're losing customers to competitors with weaker businesses but stronger local SEO.
Learn about my local SEO services →"I set up my Google Business Profile ages ago but never get calls from it"
An unoptimised profile is like an unlisted phone number. Wrong categories, no posts, no photos, missing service areas. Google doesn't know what to show you for.
"My competitor ranks above me on Google Maps and they're worse than us"
Google Maps rankings aren't about who's the best business. They're about who has the strongest signals: reviews, citations, website SEO, GBP activity. That's all fixable.
"I'm listed on loads of directories but my details are wrong on half of them"
Inconsistent name, address, or phone number across directories confuses Google. It's one of the most common local SEO problems and one of the easiest to fix.
"Nobody can find us when they search for what we do in our area"
If your website doesn't mention your services and your location together, Google doesn't connect the dots. Your site might look great but say nothing useful to a search engine.
What real findings look like
Three examples from recent audits
So you know what you will actually receive, here are three findings from recent audits (anonymised, real). Your report typically contains six to ten of these, prioritised.
Google Business Profile primary category is wrong
Why it matters
Listed as "General contractor" when the business is specifically roofing. Google ranks for the specific category, not the generic one. Roofing-related searches are sending no traffic.
What I would do
Change primary category to "Roofing contractor", move general-contractor to additional categories. Verify in Insights that impressions for roofing-related queries appear within 2-4 weeks.
NAP (name/address/phone) inconsistent across directories
Why it matters
Google sees the business listed with three different phone number formats and two different address formats across Yell, FreeIndex, Trustpilot, Facebook. This weakens the local SEO signal because Google cannot tell which version is correct.
What I would do
Pick the canonical version (the one on the GBP itself), update Yell, FreeIndex, Trustpilot and Facebook to match exactly. Submit corrections to any directory that resists. Typical timeline: 2-3 weeks for the major UK directories.
Homepage title and H1 do not include the service plus location together
Why it matters
Title says "Smith & Co | Quality Workmanship Since 1995". H1 says "Welcome to Smith & Co". Neither tells Google what you do or where. Local searchers typing "[service] [town]" are not getting matched.
What I would do
Rewrite the homepage title to "[Specific Service] in [Town] | Smith & Co" and the H1 to lead with the service-plus-location. Keep the brand visible but secondary.
UK-specific checks included
Because this is for UK businesses, the audit also covers: Companies House address consistency where relevant, the major UK directories (Yell, FreeIndex, Bark, Checkatrade where applicable, Thomson Local), service-area wording for UK towns and counties, and the local search behaviour patterns specific to UK consumers.
